Nanocages that can efficiently transport anti-epileptic drugs across the blood-brain barrierhave been prepared.

In this study, we successfully constructed nanocages composed of brain-targeted TGN peptide and hepatitis B core (HBc) protein, which improved antiepileptic efficacy of phenytoinand significantly reduced drug dosage. In a first set of experiments on mouse in vivo and human nerve cells and 3D-Organoid in vitro, we confirmed the high biosafety of nanocages. The nanocages we invented also provideed an effective drug delivery strategy for other intractable neurological diseases.

Nanocage encapsulation improves antiepileptic efficiency of phenytoin.Biomaterials2020,240, 119849.
