Zhiyong Xie Junior Principal Investigator
Neural circuits and psychiatric disorders

Dr. Xie graduated from Central South University in 2008 and obtained a bachelor's degree in bioengineering. He received a Ph.D degree in neurobiology at Tsinghua University in 2014. Later, he did his postdoctoral study in Tsinghua University (Mentor: Dr. Yi Zhong) and National Institute of Biological Sciences (Mentor: Dr. Peng Cao). In July 2022, he joined the Institute for Translational Brain Research at Fudan University as a junior principal investigator. The main research interest is sensory-triggered defensive behaviors, neural circuit mechanism underlying psychiatric disorder-related behaviors.

The main research directions are:

1. Sensory-triggered defensive behaviors and disease occurrence, especially those triggered by mechanical stimuli.

2. Neural circuit mechanism of psychiatric disorder-related behaviors, especially repetitive behavior, social interaction deficits, fear disorders, depression and anxiety. We use optogenetics, chemogenetics, Ca imaging and microendoscopy, in vivo electrophysiology and brain slice electrophysiology, neural circuit tracing, behavioral analysis, in vivo drug administration, and RNA-seq to investigate the neural circuit mechanisms underlying defense behaviors and psychiatric disorder-related behaviors, and then propose new potential therapeutic methods for treating the behavioral symptoms of psychiatric disorders.
