The core facility of the Institute for Translational Brain Research is established to support cutting-edge scientific research. It aims to provide researchers with high-level technical services and platform support in optical imaging, molecular and cellular histology, behavioral experiments, animal research, and related fields. The platform is mainly responsible for the management and maintenance of public instruments and equipment, offering access to precision, specialized, and sophisticated instruments required for scientific research; organizing training sessions and lectures on instrument operation; showcasing new equipment; and promoting the application of new technologies and methods.
Since its establishment, the Institute has completed the construction of the following equipment platforms:
1. Optical Imaging Platform
The platform is equipped with one super-resolution fluorescence lifetime imaging system, one three-photon imaging system (which greatly enhances imaging depth and enables in vivo functional imaging of deep brain regions such as the striatum and hippocampus), four two-photon imaging systems (featuring a large field of view and supporting multi-brain-region cellular-level in vivo functional imaging), four confocal laser scanning microscopes, one panoramic fast-scanning fluorescence microscope, and one live-cell real-time imaging system. In addition to meeting the large-scale and multi-dimensional experimental demands of neuroscience, the Optical Imaging Platform also explores and develops novel imaging technologies.
2. Molecular and Cellular Biology Platform
Equipped with high-end instruments including flow cytometers, ultra-high-speed refrigerated centrifuges, and protein purification systems, the platform satisfies research requirements in molecular biology, biochemistry, and related disciplines.
3. Animal Behavioral Platform
The platform is equipped with nearly all devices required for instinctive behavioral tests, supporting experiments on animal cognitive function, motor ability, social interaction, emotion, and other dimensions.
4. Histology Platform
The platform includes cryostats, vibratomes, tissue processors, and other instruments, meeting the needs of tissue sectioning and processing in neuroscience research.
5. In Vivo Animal Manipulation and Physiological Measurement Platform
Comprising stereotaxic apparatuses, metabolic cages, respiratory monitors, body composition NMR analyzers, and other equipment, the platform supports in vivo animal manipulation and physiological function measurement experiments.
6. Induced Pluripotent Stem Cell and Brain Organoid Technology Platform
This platform focuses on the development and services of brain organoid preparation techniques, covering induced pluripotent stem cell line establishment, batch preparation and cryopreservation of brain organoids, construction of gene-knockout brain organoids, development of brain organoid chips, precise preparation of brain organoids, and generation of personalized brain organoids.
