(2) Born on or after January 1, 1983.

(3) Hold a doctoral degree.

(4) The research should mainly focus on natural sciences, engineering technology, etc.

(5) After obtaining the doctoral degree and before March 15, 2023, the applicant should generally have held a formal teaching or research position at an overseas university, research institution, or corporate research and development institution for a continuous period of at least 36 months. For those who have obtained a doctoral degree overseas with outstanding achievements, the requirement for work experience can be appropriately relaxed.

(6) Have research or technical achievements recognized by peers and demonstrate the potential to become an academic leader or outstanding talent in the field.

(7)The applicant has not worked full-time in China or returned to China for work before January 1, 2022. After receiving the funding notification, the applicant must resign from overseas work or have no job overseas and work full-time in China for a minimum of 3 years.

2. Specific Requirements:

Comply with the requirements of the relevant central departments regarding the coordination of national talent programs in science and technology. Within the support period of the same level national talent program, only one project can be undertaken, and applications cannot be made at a lower level than the current level.

3. Application Platform:

National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) Network Information System. The link to the project application information system ishttps://grants.nsfc.gov.cn/.

4. Application Guidance:

After confirming the intention to apply, the institute will provide one-on-one guidance from high-level experts to improve the chances of selection.

II. Support Conditions

Selected overseas young talents will receive startup funding ranging from 4 to 6 million RMB(including national funding, excluding Shanghai projects and matching funds), with a 3 to 5 years funding period. In addition, Fudan University will provide generous benefits to the selected candidates, including:

1. Salary and Benefits:

An annual salary of 600,000 to 800,000 RMB. No cap on various performance-based incentives.

2. Research Conditions:

Supported by the State Key Laboratory of Medical Neurobiology and MOE Frontiers Center for Brain Science, which provide state-of-the-art equipment and 110 square meters of ready-to-use laboratory space.

3. Team Support:

Directly recognized as a "Doctoral Supervisor." One quota for doctoral student enrollment is set aside annually, encouraging the recruitment of postdoctoral researchers (with matching funding), research assistants, etc.

4. One-time Subsidies such as Housing Allowance:

Between 2.48 to 3.15 million RMB (including one-time talent subsidies from the university, Shanghai, and the national level). Access to affordable high-end talent apartments (three bedrooms and one living room) for rental.

Institute Introduction:

Established in July 2019, the Institute for Translational Brain Research (ITBR) at Fudan University is an independent research institution affiliated with the Shanghai Medical College, the State Key Laboratory of Medical Neurobiology, and the Ministry of Education's Frontiers Center for Brain Science. ITBR is dedicated to both fundamental and translational research in the field of neuroscience. Professor Shumin Duan, a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, serves as the inaugural director of the institute.

The research areas of ITBR include elucidating the neural circuits and regulatory mechanisms of brain function, the development and plasticity of brain structure and function, neural signal processing mechanisms, and the mechanisms of brain diseases and neural modulation interventions in basic research. In terms of translational research, ITBR aims to establish interdisciplinary platforms and mechanisms by integrating brain science with medicine, optics, information science, and other disciplines. It aims to address primary national strategic needs and promote the development and application of cutting-edge technologies in brain science, including basic research, brain function regulation, diagnosis and treatment of brain diseases, and artificial intelligence.

Since its establishment, ITBR has achieved rapid development. It has added14 national talent projects and formed a critical innovation team focusing on "Innate Behaviors and Their Dysregulation Mechanisms and Interventions." ITBR has undertaken over 90 research projects, including several national and provincial essential research tasks (including 10 projects from the China Brain Project), with a total funding exceeding 170 million RMB. Significant research results have been achieved in basic and clinical neuroscience, with 32 high-level papers published as first or corresponding authors in renowned international journals such as Nature, Cell, Neuron, Nature Biomedical Engineering, Nature Communications, and PNAS. Multiple patents have been granted in areas such as gene editing, brain organoids, brain tumor targets, multiphoton imaging, and brain-computer interfaces. ITBR has established a postdoctoral workstation and is actively involved in the recruitment and training of postdoctoral researchers. Currently, there are over 30 postdoctoral researchers, including those participating in international talent introduction programs, Shanghai Super Postdoctoral Fellowships, and Fudan Super Postdoctoral Fellowships. ITBR has also established a secondary discipline of "Neuroscience and Translation" and independently enrolls and trains graduate students, with a current student body of nearly 100. ITBR actively participates in the construction of the State Key Laboratory of Medical Neurobiology and the Ministry of Education's Frontiers Center for Brain Science. Its public technology platforms (with a total value of nearly 100 million RMB) have been established and put into use, providing strong support for high-level scientific research conducted by the institute.

ITBR participates in Shanghai's high-level local university construction plan, including the construction of first-class disciplines in basic medicine and Shanghai's key disciplines. It implements the academic special zone policy in terms of talent recruitment and operational management. ITBR is actively recruiting outstanding talents from both China and overseas. Currently, there are 26 independently operating research groups, and a talent training model and system that promote interdisciplinary innovation have been established. Leveraging the abundant clinical resources of Fudan University's affiliated hospitals, ITBR fully utilizes the university's advantages in both basic and clinical research to enhance the original innovation capabilities of research teams. ITBR actively responds to primary national strategic needs and the demands of people's health and aims to become an internationally renowned neuroscience research institution that emphasizes both fundamental research and translational applications.

ITBR is currently recruiting and warmly welcomes outstanding young talents from China and abroad to join the institute at Fudan University.
