Tong Ma is currently a principal investigator at the Institute for Translational Brain Research (ITBR) and an adjunct professor at Zhongshan Hospital, Fudan University. He received his Ph.D. degree in neurobiology from the Institutes of Brain Science, Fudan University in 2012. From 2013 to 2021, he conducted postdoctoral research at Department of Neurology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and Department of Neuroscience at the University of Pennsylvania. He joined ITBR at Fudan University as a Laboratory Head and startedhisown lab in August 2021. His research centers around investigating the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying neural development, and deciphering the neural circuits and functions of distinct hypothalamic neuronal subtypes.

Research of the laboratory focuses on investigating the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying neural development, and deciphering the neural circuits and functions of distinct hypothalamic neuronal subtypes, the main research topics including:

1. The cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying the developmental

establishment of hypothalamic nuclei and generation of neuronal diversity.

2. The hypothalamic neural circuits mediating innate behaviors.

3. The evolutionary conservation and changes in the hypothalamic

development during mammalian evolution.
