Chao Tan Principal Investigator
Neurotransmission and brain diseases

Dr. Tan is a principal investigator at Institute for Translational Brain Research (ITBR) at Fudan University. Chao graduated from Zhejiang University and got his bachelor's degree in 2013. He received his Ph.D. in Medicine from Zhejiang University in 2018. In 2018, Chao joined Prof. Pascal S. Kaeser's laboratory at Harvard Medical School where he worked as a postdoc. He joined ITBR as an independent research group leader in 2023. His group focuses on clarifying the mechanisms underlying neurotransmission and brain diseases. He has authored 15 publications on peer-reviewed academic journals including Neuron, Nature Neuroscience, eLife, Cerebral Cortex, the Journal of Neuroscience, Stem Cell Reports, Cell Research etc. He also served as a reviewer for academic journals including Cellular and Molecular Neurobiology, International Immunopharmacology, Journal of Molecular Cell Biology and Neural Regeneration Research etc.

Dr. Tian-Lin Cheng got his bachelor degree in 2008 from Fudan University, and received his Ph.D. degrees from Institute of Neuroscience, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2014. From 2014 to 2019, he worked as Assistant Investigator in Dr. Zilong Qiu’s lab at Institute of Neuroscience, Chinese Academy of Sciences. He joined Institute for Translational Brain Research at Fudan University in January 2020 as Junior Principal Investigator. He mainly focuses on the development of novel gene editing tools and gene therapy for genetic disorders.
