Haidong Lv Professor
Functional Brain Architecture and Information Processing

Dr. Haidong Lv obtained his bachelor's degree in physics from Sichuan University (1994), master's degree in biophysics from the Institute of Biophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) in 1997, and Ph.D. in experimental psychology from the University of Louisville, USA, in 2002. From 2002 to 2008, he conducted postdoctoral research at Yale University and Vanderbilt University in the USA. From 2008 to 2013, he was a PI at the Institute of Neuroscience, CAS. From 2013 to 2023, he was a professor at the State Key Laboratory of Cognitive Neuroscience and Learning at Beijing Normal University. In 2024, he joined the Institute for Translational Brain Research at Fudan University. Using techniques such as optical imaging and electrophysiology, he investigates the functional architecture and information processing mechanisms of the cerebral cortex. His original work has been published in academic journals such as Neuron, PNAS, eLife, and Cell Reports. He has received funding from the National Natural Science Foundation of China's Key Program and the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars.

The laboratory employs various technical approaches, including intrinsic signal optical imaging, two-photon calcium imaging, electrophysiology, morphology, behavioral studies, and artificial neural network models, to investigate the functional architecture of the cerebral cortex and the processing mechanisms of sensory information. Recent research focuses include:

1. Cortical functional architecture under normal and pathological conditions

2. Spontaneous activity and mesoscale functional connectivity in the cerebral cortex

3. Parallel processing and integration mechanisms of visual information

4. Deep learning convolutional neural network models of neurons in the visual cortex
